Heretic
Old God influence 6 ward effects dark shields

Heretic heals through the influence of the Old Gods: a shield-forward, protection-first healing profile where wards outnumber direct heals — wrapping allies in whispers instead of light. It's a proactive absorb-healer with a damage thread woven all the way through its gameplay.

Retail Feel

The closest retail analog is Discipline Priest: the core button — a single cast that either damages an enemy or heals an ally, Gaze of C'Thun — paired with a spender that hits a target and cleave-heals the lowest-health nearby allies off the same GCD, Malevolence, reproduces Disc's damage-that-heals loop rather than a pure direct-heal kit. On top of that sits a Shadow Priest-style Insanity meter with a Total Madness penalty to manage or neutralize via Herald of the Depths, the Abyssal Covenant damage-link, and a damage kit gated behind a two-handed weapon — Blade of the Empire and Malevolence both require it — that no retail healer template has. The net result plays like Discipline's shield-and-atonement fundamentals wearing a melee-hybrid, Insanity-resource skin.

A healer that also puts out real pressure: Malevolence and Gaze of C'Thun chip the enemy while topping the group, while Abyssal Covenant tethers a focused ally to bleed their damage taken onto you. With no instant panic heal, a well-timed silence while your shields are on cooldown can outrace you.

A dual-resource healer (Mana + Insanity) that has to constantly juggle ranged healing, weaving melee hits to convert its own damage into healing, and pre-positioning its shields ahead of the hit rather than reacting after.

Leveling Guide

Heretic levels as an attack-healer: Blade of Yogg-Saron and Shadow Pennant convert Blade of the Empire's and auto-attack damage into passive healing on the lowest-health ally, letting it sustain itself solo or duo while still dealing damage, backed by Void Shield and Embrace the Void when a pull goes wrong. In groups it's the primary healer, tethering the tank with Abyssal Covenant to absorb 10% of their damage while converting 20% of its own into healing, then topping the raid up with Forbidden Ritual, Dark Veil, and Dark Prophet's 5-target heal.

Abyssal Covenant
The build's pivot is the tank-healer damage-link mechanic — soaking a share of the tank's damage and converting your own into healing for them — that the rest of the tree (Dark Protection, Lead the Covenant, Visions of the Empire, Dark Prophet) is built to amplify.

Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths
  • Self-sufficient in melee — Blade of Yogg-Saron, Shadow Pennant, and As The Prophecy Foretold's crit mana refund turn simply trading hits into free healing and resource, letting it out-sustain most 1v1s without external help.
  • Best anti-focus toolkit in the kit — Abyssal Covenant (soaks a share of an ally's damage and converts your own into healing for them) and Dark Veil (stun/silence immunity while channeling, plus a stacking self+ally shield) give it more ways to protect a focused target than almost any other healer.
  • Damage-while-healing hybrid — Malevolence and Gaze of C'Thun both hit the enemy and heal allies off a single cast, applying real pressure instead of playing pure passive support — decisive in an uncoordinated skirmish.
Weaknesses
  • Dual-resource overhead — juggling Mana (nearly every spell costs a percentage of base mana) and Insanity (build-and-spend, capped by Total Madness) under pressure is demanding, and misplaying either one stalls both damage and healing.
  • No instant panic-button heal — the biggest heals (Satiate + Dark Matter, Dark Veil) are channels or cooldowns, so a sudden burst window while your defensives are down can outrace your throughput.
  • Melee-weapon dependency creates a positioning bind — Blade of the Empire and Malevolence (two-handed weapon) need melee range for full value, exposing it to cleave/stun range more than a pure caster healer.
