Moon Guard
Lunar wards Astral weapons Moon warrior

Martial weapons steeped in moon and starlight: with its shields and a solid handful of defensives over an Arcane/Physical melee core, Moon Guard is Starcaller's frontline spec — an astral warder who protects behind moonlight barriers.

Retail Feel

Closest analog is retail Protection Paladin. The resemblance is mechanical, not just in feel: a shield-gated defensive (Blanket of Stars requires a shield, like the Avenger's Shield/Holy Shield lineage), a taunt bundled with mitigation (Chosen of the Moon taunts everything nearby while cutting physical damage taken, like Hand of Reckoning fused with a damage-reduction cooldown), a proc that only fires off a mitigation event and deals unavoidable AoE damage (Moonflares off avoided attacks, Nebula seeding Scattered Stars off blocks, similar to old Reckoning/Judgment procs), a large emergency shield that ignores the exact CC that usually kills a tank (Moonlit Bulwark, usable while stunned, like Ardent Defender/Guardian of Ancient Kings), and a small self-heal funded by the kit itself (Font of Magic converts spent mana into a heal, like Word of Glory funded by Holy Power). The Energy/Mana dual-resource split (fillers on Energy, everything impactful on percentage mana) is the one place it diverges from Paladin's single-resource model.

Why is this spec not rated like the others?

Combat logs rank players by damage output. A tank does not produce meaningful damage — its job is to absorb it.

Its rating therefore answers a different question: is it brought to raids?

9.1%representation
17.2%expected share
×0.53its share

Across 671 fights of raids, all difficulties with at least 90% of the roster known.

The expected share is what a spec would get if slots were split at random between those competing for them — a tank and a damage spec are not after the same number. Above ×1 it is brought more than its share; below, less.

This rating never exceeds A: it describes what groups choose, not what a specialisation produces. A spec can be strong and rare.

These talents are a PvE configuration. The Arena and Battleground grades shown above rate the specialisation’s PvP potential — not this tree.

Stat Priority
PvE
Defense (crit-immune — far less Defense needed than in retail at level 60) Stamina Hit/Expertise (to land Starsunder/Celestial Cleave threat swings) Parry (feeds the Dancing in the Moonlight parry-proc) Dodge Block (Blanket of Stars, Enchanted Aegis) Agility (attack power via the Virtue stat, block value) Strength / Intellect (Moon Guard converts Strength 1:1 into Intellect, so they're effectively one stat here — fuelling the percentage-mana shields Moonlit Bulwark / Astral Reconstitution and the spell-power/max-mana damage scaling; a damage-leaning PvP build itemizes heavily for Strength) Critical Strike
PvP
Resilience Stamina Defense/Dodge/Parry/Block (Blanket of Stars, Cosmic Crown) Hit/Expertise Agility Intellect

Five shield/block talents (Blanket of Stars, Cosmic Crown, Enchanted Aegis) push Defense-capped avoidance to the top, while the kit's percentage-mana barriers (including Moonlit Bulwark) make Intellect matter more than for a typical tank. Moon Guard converts Strength into Intellect 1:1, so Strength doubles as your damage/mana-shield stat; and with no PvP-power stat live in COA right now, high-stat crafted plate can outvalue Resilience-bearing PvP gear for a damage-leaning build.
