Fortitude shapeshifts into Beetle Form to soak up massive punishment behind a wall of chitin armor, leaning on several defensive cooldowns and periodic self-heals to hold the line, while a wide spread of venom effects punish anyone who hits it.
It's a self-sustaining poison tank that turns damage taken into damage dealt back — every hit it eats feeds both its own survival and its offensive pressure.
Hostile attacks against you have a 50% chance to grant a stack of Exposed Flesh, generating 10 Rage and increasing Physical damage taken by 3% for 20 seconds, stacking up to 10 times.
Closest to Brewmaster Monk. Exposed Flesh — a stacking debuff you periodically purify into mitigation and healing — is a near 1:1 analog of Stagger + Purifying Brew: incoming damage feeds a resource pool (stacks / Rage), then a cooldown (Regrow Exoskeleton, Barbed Stinger, Expulsion, or Harden) converts that pool into a burst of mitigation and, in Beetle Form, a heal. Like Brewmaster, the spec is built to be extremely hard to burst down rather than to top DPS charts, leaning on a form gimmick (Beetle Form) layered with dodge/avoidance stacking (Reinforced Exoskeleton, Alacrity's Chitin Rush dodge burst) rather than a flat damage-reduction shield.
Why is this spec not rated like the others?
Combat logs rank players by damage output. A tank does not produce meaningful damage — its job is to absorb it.
Its rating therefore answers a different question: is it brought to raids?
Across 671 fights of raids, all difficulties with at least 90% of the roster known.
The expected share is what a spec would get if slots were split at random between those competing for them — a tank and a damage spec are not after the same number. Above ×1 it is brought more than its share; below, less.
This rating never exceeds A: it describes what groups choose, not what a specialisation produces. A spec can be strong and rare.
