Stalking is the Venomancer's assassination tree: shift into a giant spider, strike from the shadows, and let a stacking web of poison effects finish the job long after you've moved on. It plays as hit-and-fade melee — the target dies on a delay, well after the last hit lands.
That predator identity runs through every trait of the spec: a permanent Spider Form, openers built around ambushing from Skulk, and layered poison damage that keeps ticking long after the engagement ends.
Venom Fang now applies a Brood Mark for 15 seconds, stacking up to 5 times — several abilities consume them for a bonus effect.
The closest retail comparison is Feral Druid (Cat, duelist/brawler build): both are shapeshift-gated melee specs running a builder/finisher economy that rarely runs dry (Energy plus Brood Marks here, Energy plus Combo Points there), both lean on bleed/DoT finishers for damage (Facemelter/Rotfang/Withering Venom versus Rip/Rake), both have a hard low-HP execute (Widowmaker's healing-reduction hit versus Ferocious Bite), and both open from stealth (Skulk mirrors Prowl). The gap is defense: Feral has real tools (Bear Form armor, Survival Instincts) and anti-CC, while Stalking has essentially none — no stun-break, no root/snare break, no immunity — making it far more vulnerable to being locked down.
Rated 'Intermediate', but with a demanding floor: Vulnerability auto-applies Blight Venom passively, so the base loop runs on its own, but getting the most out of Stalking means juggling several DoTs at once, banking Brood Marks for the right window, and syncing Widowmaker with the execute phase.
Stalking levels fast solo in Spider Form: open with Withering Venom or Widow's Kiss, stack Brood Marks off Venom Fang, and dump them through Facemelter while banking Noxious Empowerment for burst windows; Death Spray and Bile Eruption keep Energy flowing so pulls chain smoothly.
In groups, it's a sustained single-target melee DPS built around Nerubian Sting/Withering Venom pressure, Spindlebind's root utility, and Brood Lord's web-slow for light add control.
- Core loop — Spider Form: Venom Fang applies Brood Marks, and the finishers (Facemelter, Rotfang, Widowmaker) consume them for scaling damage.
- Signature (Brood Marks): Venom Fang now applies a Brood Mark for 15 seconds, stacking 5 times. Some abilities consume them for a bonus effect.
Despite the melee, Spider-Form delivery, nearly every damaging bite is really a Shadow/Nature/Plague spell with an explicit +SP scaling, and the Prowler passive converts Intellect into both spell damage and hit — so this plays as a spell-hit-and-spell-power spec wearing a rogue's positioning rules.
- Dense DoT pressure and a hard execute: Withering Venom, Rotfang, and Facemelter grind the target down while Widowmaker's healing-reduction hit — which ramps under 35% HP via Black Widow — seals the kill.
- A sticky builder/finisher economy that rarely runs dry: Vulnerability auto-applies Blight Venom, Vile Fangs and Skulk feed Marks or free casts, and Blistering Fangs/Death Spray refund Energy on spenders.
- Single-target peel with a bit of range flex: Spindlebind (2 charges) roots a chaser or a kill target, and the Serpent Lord augment can give a few Spider Form casts a short cast time and extra range.
- No anti-CC anywhere in the kit — no stun-break, no root/snare break, no fear/slow immunity — so a stunlock or one well-timed hard-CC chain fully shuts it down.
- Fully melee-committed with no reliable ranged answer (the Serpent Lord augment only adds a little range), so a disciplined kiter playing outside Spindlebind range can largely ignore it.
- Cooldown-limited CC and thin group utility — Web Wrap and Arachnophobia are one-shot answers on real cooldowns, its interrupt (Nullifying Toxin) locks only one spell school, and beyond Envenomed Weapons' party weapon-poison it brings no group buff or cleanse of any kind — it can't shut down two full-health opponents at once.
Demanding to play well — form-swapping and tracking several DoTs at once.
Huge mastery ceiling — perfect multi-DoT uptime and optimizing your Brood Mark economy.
