Diablo 4 just opened the PTR for version 3.2.0, and Diablo 4 Rebirth is grabbing the whole community's attention ahead of Season 15. The idea is simple on paper: convert a character from the Eternal Realm into a Seasonal character, without starting over under a new name. Except there's a catch, and it's the kind that can cost you hours of farming if you click too fast.
What Exactly Is Diablo 4 Rebirth?
Diablo 4 Rebirth isn't a brand-new invention. Diablo 3 already had this system, letting you switch an Eternal character over to the current season. On Diablo 4, the mechanic lands with the 3.2.0 PTR, open from August 4 to 11, 2026, on PC only, via Battle.net. Maxroll ranks it 7th on its list of Season 15 additions.
The principle fits in one sentence. You pick an existing Eternal character, trigger Rebirth, and it reappears as Seasonal with the same class and the same appearance. No need to rebuild from scratch, or hunt down an unlocked skin or title again. But reappearing doesn't mean keeping everything.
What You Keep, What You Lose
The table is short, but every line matters.

Once you're back as Seasonal, you'll quickly need fresh Soul Shards to socket your newly recovered gear, since your old ones stay behind on the Eternal character whose inventory just got wiped.
On the creation screen shown during Rebirth, the game style isn't the only thing you can tick. Solo Self Found and Hardcore show up in the same spot, meaning you can start over with stricter rules than your original character if you want to. Once the name is confirmed, the red Rebirth button locks it all in.

The Steps to Follow
The Diablo 4 Rebirth process takes just a few clicks, but the order matters. Here's what to do so you don't lose anything.
- Transfer all equipped gear and your inventory contents to the Eternal Realm's Stash, before touching anything else.
- From the character selection screen, choose the character to put through Rebirth.
- Click the Rebirth button.
- Read the warning shown in red (see the screenshot below). This is the only moment the game explicitly warns you about the risk.
- Only check the deletion box if the Stash is already empty of anything you want to keep.
- Re-type the character's name in the field provided to confirm.
- Confirm. The conversion is instant.

That red text isn't decorative. It's the only window between a character kept fully intact and one that starts Seasonal empty-handed.
The Trap That's Going to Cost a Lot of Players
The conversion is one-way. Once Rebirth is confirmed, there's no going back to grab the item you forgot at the bottom of your inventory. Players who've been farming uniques and mythics for weeks have every reason to empty their pockets before hitting that red button. Some historic uniques like the Stone of Jordan, brought back this season, clearly fall into that category worth protecting before you hit Rebirth.
The game offers a checkbox to explicitly delete any remaining equipment and inventory. It exists because Blizzard expects some players to trigger Rebirth without transferring everything beforehand. Checking it knowingly is no problem at all. Checking it out of reflex just to breeze through the screen faster is exactly the scenario that's going to make people lose gear.
When Is Rebirth Actually Arriving?
Diablo 4 Rebirth is still PTR content. Every official screenshot carries the IN DEVELOPMENT CONTENT, NOT FINAL watermark, and the exact rules (restrictions, edge cases) could still change before a full release.
Season 14, Death Awakening, has been running since June 30, 2026. According to Blizzard Watch, it would give way to Season 15 on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, around 7 PM French time. That date isn't officially confirmed by Blizzard. It comes from the in-game countdown timer and the sites tracking it, not from a studio announcement.
One more detail worth keeping in mind. BlizzCon 2026 runs on September 12 and 13, just three days before this presumed launch. Blizzard usually saves its biggest season announcements for that event, as detailed in our article on what the studio is holding back for BlizzCon. So the current PTR test window probably doesn't tell the whole story of what's coming in Season 15.
