Apple home display on Oct. 13: what to expect

Apple home display: a small square screen mounted on a speaker base, sitting on a kitchen counter

Article by Kami

On Tuesday, October 13, Apple would unveil a screen built for the kitchen and living room for the first time. According to MacDailyNews, which relays reporting from Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, the company is preparing an event to show three products: an Apple home display, a refreshed HomePod mini and a faster Apple TV 4K. None of this is official yet. For European readers, another question weighs more than the spec sheet: will its AI assistant even work in your home?

Apple home display: what Gurman reports, and what remains unconfirmed

The starting point is a single sentence, published in Gurman’s Power On newsletter: « Apple is planning to hold an event on Oct. 13 to unveil its long-awaited smart home hub with a screen, the new HomePod mini and an updated Apple TV ». Bloomberg’s original text sits behind a paywall and could not be consulted: the sentence is the one MacDailyNews quotes.

On the official side, the slate is empty. Apple has sent no invitation, and its Events page makes no mention of October 13. The site T3 nonetheless ran a headline on October 1 about a new device announced for that date, a sign that the tech press treats the date as settled. Gurman has been right about Apple’s calendar before, but an unconfirmed date is still an unconfirmed date.

The Apple home display: what the leaks describe

According to MacRumors, the device would have a square screen of about 6 inches, attached by a metal arm to a round base pierced with speaker holes, in the spirit of the iMac G4. It would sit on a countertop or mount on a wall, with up to four colors and a brand-new operating system. Older reports mentioned 7 inches instead; Notebookcheck still cites that nearly square size. The exact size remains open.

Gurman sums up the idea this way: « It’s basically like an Amazon Echo Show built by Apple for the Apple universe ». On the feature list, per MacDailyNews: a front camera for FaceTime, microphones, speakers in the base and a role as a control panel for HomeKit accessories. Face recognition would tell who is speaking. The name HomePad is circulating, unconfirmed, and no price has leaked.

The HomePod mini would be refreshed for the first time since 2020, with a faster chip and better sound. The Apple TV 4K would gain power and memory. All three products would revolve around Siri AI.

Siri will speak French, but not necessarily in your home

This is where the story turns European. MacRumors spotted on September 16 that the iOS 27.2 beta brings Siri AI in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. The Hans India writes that the update is expected before the end of October. Apple had itself promised these languages for that month. On paper, an Apple home display that speaks French is therefore plausible this fall.

The catch is geography. iPhoneSoft sums it up: French does not mean France. Apple explained in June, on its own site, that the European DMA (the law that forces big platforms to open up to competition) is delaying Siri AI in the European Union on iPhone and iPad. Consomac specifies that access remains limited to Mac and Vision Pro, and Tom’s Guide points to spring 2027 at best for the iPhone.

One point remains unanswered: we do not know whether this Apple home display, which is neither an iPhone nor an iPad, will be treated like them by Apple in Europe. If the restriction applies, the device would be sold in France with an assistant stripped of its AI features. Apple has already had to build a separate version of its AI for a regulated market, as shown by the AI trained with Alibaba for China. None of the sources consulted says what will happen with the display.

A second wave at the end of October for the Mac

October 13 would be only the first salvo. Notebookcheck reports two events: the second, between October 26 and 30 according to the latest MacRumors information, would focus on Macs, with a thinner MacBook Pro with a touch OLED screen that could be called MacBook Ultra. M6-generation chips are mentioned for this lineup, with no official source.

This double sequence clarifies the strategy: the connected home first, the computer next. Apple is also handling other projects in parallel, from the foldable iPhone Duo at $1,999 to services, with Apple Music labeling AI-generated music.

Apple usually sends its invitations a week before an event. Five days before the announced date, none has gone out: that is the first sign to watch.
