Marksmanship Hunter Build — WoW Forever Talents & Guide

Marksmanship, the specialization that aims true

Marksmanship is the Hunter spec built around a single talent almost everyone goes for, even in a hybrid build: Trueshot Aura, the game’s only ranged attack power buff, which is why a vanilla raid will almost always bring a Marksmanship hunter. Mortal Shots and Lethal Attacks then stack critical strike chance until it becomes the pure ranged damage tree, well ahead of pet survivability or melee. It demands real mana management, since Shots are expensive, and rewards the hunter who stays at range and tracks their cooldowns rather than one who improvises. It’s the go-to spec for ranged damage in raid, and the one that forgives sloppy rotation the least.

What Forever changes in the Marksmanship tree

Of eighteen talents, four are brand new and eight have been reworked. The deepest of the four is Lone Wolf: +20% damage on all attacks as long as no pet is active, a direct incentive to play without one, something Marksmanship never offered in vanilla. Alongside it, Careful Aim converts a share of Intellect into attack power, and Rapid Killing rewards finishing blows with a shorter cooldown and a temporary damage bonus on your next Shot. Two talents are gone, Improved Hunter’s Mark and Improved Scorpid Sting, while Trueshot Aura and Mortal Shots go untouched, still the pillars of the tree.

Playing without a pet: to be confirmed in beta

Lone Wolf is, for the first time, offering a way to play Marksmanship without a pet. Is it viable in raid? The build guide that will answer that will follow, from the beta’s opening (September 17, 2026) through to full launch (November 4, 2026).
