Survival Hunter Build — WoW Forever Talents & Guide

Survival, the tree Forever rebuilt

In vanilla, Survival is the tree a hunter passes through rather than lives in: a few points in Deterrence or Counterattack for PvP survivability, rarely the full 31 points that led to Wyvern Sting or to a capstone worth committing to fully. It’s the Hunter’s hybrid spec, melee and traps rather than pet or pure ranged damage, built for self-reliance: less dependent on having a healthy pet, it leans on dodge, parry, and traps to hold its own in melee. Useful solo and while exploring, in vanilla it remained the Hunter’s least fully-committed spec, for lack of a real through-line that rewarded investing in it.

What Forever changes in the Survival tree

Along with Holy Paladin, Survival is the most heavily reworked tree in the game: eight brand-new talents, and above all six removed, the biggest cut of any specialization. Among the losses, Wyvern Sting isn’t just an adjusted talent, it’s an entire ability that disappears. The new talents sketch out a stronger melee identity: Predator’s Edge boosts melee critical damage, Lacerating Strikes adds a bleed to Mongoose Bite, Strider Kick brings a genuine kick ability, and Resourcefulness lowers the mana cost of traps and melee attacks. Blizzard didn’t add to Survival, it rebuilt it: what’s left from vanilla, like Clever Traps or Deterrence, isn’t even touched anymore.
