Retribution Paladin, the class’s bruiser
In vanilla, Retribution Paladin is the least-played spec in raid, not for lack of ideas, but because its damage never held up against an equivalent Warrior or Rogue. Seal of Command and Judgement remain the core of the gameplay: cast the seal, maintain it in melee, release it at the right moment. Vindication and Vengeance reward aggression: cutting the enemy’s attack power on one side, stacking up damage on the other. It is, on the other hand, an excellent small-scale PvP spec: Repentance stuns a humanoid, and the way power stacks on critical hits makes every trade unpredictable. Solo or in a group, it’s the tree that hits rather than the one that heals or tanks, the only one of the three that really plays the Paladin as a bruiser.
What Forever changes in the Retribution tree
Of the tree’s eighteen talents, seven are brand new and nine have been reworked: only Deflection and Repentance go through Forever without a single change, making this the least-neglected of the Paladin’s three trees. Crusade and Champion of the Light bring genuinely new raw damage: the latter boosts damage and healing by up to a third of the player’s Intellect, a mechanic vanilla Retribution never had. Twist of Light changes the way you juggle Seals: swapping an active Seal for another now generates an Echo that applies the old one one last time on your next melee attack, instead of losing it for nothing. Instrument of Law and Sacred Arbiter round out the list of new talents. Combined with the Holy and Protection trees, the class now has twenty brand-new talents across its three trees in total: no other Forever class has gone through a comparable overhaul.

The Paladin already counts twenty brand-new talents
Together with Holy and Protection, Retribution brings the Paladin’s total of brand-new talents across its three trees to twenty, and no other Forever class has gone through a comparable overhaul, at least on paper from the community data. What that means in practice, the build guide will tell once the spec has been tested from the beta’s opening on September 17, 2026 through to launch on November 4, 2026.
