"Well, you snooze you lose." On October 1, on the official Diablo 4 forum, a player named Berronax addressed those who wanted to play fair and refused to exploit a bug to climb the Tower leaderboards. The day before, Blizzard had announced it would not fix the bug before the end of Season 15. The thread passed 3,600 views and 64 posts.
This bug involves the Hellfire Torch, the Mythic charm dropped by Diablo, Mephisto and Baal when you defeat them together. Combined with two Mythic seals, it lets you keep two Unique charms active on top of itself, plus a full set bonus. We already covered Blizzard's decision in our article on the Gift of the Tree and the bonus caches. This guide explains the trick itself, what you need to gather before trying it, and what it may cost you in Season 16.
What the Hellfire Torch does, and why two seals break it
The entry published by Icy Veins on September 19 gives the exact values. The Torch grants 10 to 20% to all stats, 10 to 20% resistance to all elements, and 1 to 4 points to all skills. Most importantly, it allows one extra Unique charm in the Talisman and adds +1 to the count of a class set. That set is fixed on the item: the copy shown by Icy Veins boosts "Way of the Blurring Blade".

Both seals involved are Mythic Horadric seals, the centerpiece of the Talisman (the board that holds the charms, covered in our Talisman and Horadric Cube guide). Their effects can be read in the site's tooltip database:
- The Seal of the Golden Epiphany limits the Talisman to 4 slots, but allows 3 Unique charms.
- The Seal of the Diamond Mind reduces by 1 the number of charms needed for each set bonus, with a minimum of 2.
Taken separately, each one stays within the rules. The bug comes from switching from one to the other: when the seal changes, the game does not deactivate the extra Uniques. Those placed under the Seal of the Golden Epiphany therefore stay active once the other seal is in place.
Getting the Hellfire Torch in the Echo of Tristram
The Torch does not drop at random. It rewards the fight against the three brothers together in the Echo of Tristram, a hidden Season 15 zone accessible only on Torment difficulty. The path, per Icy Veins:
- Beat the echoes of Baal, Mephisto and Diablo on Torment 10, each in its own Waking Nightmare dungeon, to collect their three splinters: Splinter of Destruction, Splinter of Hatred and Splinter of Terror.
- Combine the three splinters in the Horadric Cube, through a hidden recipe, to craft a Wirt's Lucky Coin. These coins stack up to 99 and are limited to Season 15.
- Spend the coin at the Old Tristram fountain, which opens the portal to the Echo.
- Defeat the three brothers at the same time.
One thing to check before farming: the set +1 on your Hellfire Torch must target your build's set. A Torch tied to a set you are not wearing keeps its stats and its extra Unique slot, but it completes nothing. The two seals are the real barrier: they are Mythic items, and you need two. Getting them follows the rules detailed in our article on Mythic crafting in Season 15.
The trick, step by step
Order matters, because the Seal of the Golden Epiphany leaves only 4 slots. You cannot fill everything before the seal swap. Here is the sequence described by Diablofilter, the only version in circulation that fits this limit:
- Place the Seal of the Golden Epiphany at the center of the Talisman.
- Place the Hellfire Torch, then your two Unique charms.
- Replace the seal with the Seal of the Diamond Mind, without removing any charm.
- Fill the freed slots with three charms from the set targeted by the Torch.
The math works out. Three set charms plus the Torch's +1 give a count of 4. The Seal of the Diamond Mind lowers the full-bonus threshold from 5 to 4. Result: full set bonus, Torch active, and two Uniques instead of one.
Guides agree on one instruction: once the seal is changed, do not touch the Torch or the two Uniques again. The effect is only described as long as these three charms stay in place, and no source consulted says whether the effect survives a disconnect. After each reconnect, open the tooltip of your Uniques and check that none is grayed out before starting a Pit or a Tower floor.
What Blizzard said, and what awaits Season 16
The official message dates from September 30. It was posted on the Diablo 4 forum by community manager filthierich and signed by Dan Tanguay, design director. Blizzard acknowledges a behavior "beyond what was originally intended", then settles it: "we've decided not to make changes to it during the current season." The reason given: many players spent time getting the Torch and building their characters around it.

Its closing lines matter more to those who plan to keep their character. Blizzard writes that the Hellfire Torch itself is "something we're considering for the future", and that this is exactly why it wants to handle the interaction properly. So you can bet on the Torch coming back, much less on the two-seal trick. A build that only works thanks to the second Unique will need to be rethought next season.
For the Tower, the question is already settled
Outside the leaderboards, the trick is just a convenience. For anyone aiming for a rank in the Tower leaderboards, it is something else: according to Maxroll, the bug has flooded the official leaderboards, and skipping it means giving up places. Berronax's message lays out the problem bluntly: "Thought people would be punished for abusing it, or have their clears removed?" Blizzard's message mentions neither a penalty nor a leaderboard cleanup.

Our take: a bug the publisher leaves in place and attaches no penalty to becomes a rule of the game for the season. Refusing it on principle means playing a different leaderboard than the one displayed. If you are pushing the Tower, use the trick. If you are playing the season for fun, the two seals cost a lot for a gain that will probably disappear next season. Our Season 15 tier list, made on September 16, ranks the builds without it.
