Elemental Combat, WoW Forever’s Ranged Shaman
Forever calls this tree Elemental Combat, the name used in the very first vanilla patches before Blizzard shortened it to Elemental. The content itself is familiar: this is the ranged Shaman, the one who drops Fire and Earth Totems before finishing the target off with Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning, and Earth Shock. In vanilla raids, it’s a support spec at best, since Fire Mage and Shadow Priest dominate ranged damage, and Elemental Combat mostly fills a utility role. Solo and while leveling, it holds up much better, thanks to its range and its ability to root a target before burning it down.
What Forever changes in the Elemental Combat tree
Out of sixteen talents, eleven are tweaked and three are brand new, against a single one removed. The three new talents reshape the end of the rotation: Lava Burst is an all-new direct-damage spell that hits 20% harder if Flame Shock is already burning the target, Lightning Overload gives Lightning Bolt or Chain Lightning a chance to fire twice at no extra cost, and Earthbound roots nearby targets the moment an Earthbind Totem is dropped. The eleven tweaks adjust cost, critical strike, or range percentages without changing what the talents actually do. In exchange, the spec loses Elemental Mastery, the vanilla button that guaranteed a critical strike and a free spell, and its role as a burst cooldown now seems to fall to Lava Burst.

Lava Burst has to prove it can replace Elemental Mastery
Eleven of Elemental Combat’s sixteen talents change their values, but only one truly disappears: Elemental Mastery, whose boost-button role Lava Burst appears to inherit. Whether that trade actually holds up is something the build guide will confirm once it can follow the spec in practice, from the beta’s opening on September 17, 2026, through launch on November 4, 2026.
