A tank with Retribution talents

The Retribution Paladin wields a two-handed weapon. Retribution-Protection swaps it for a one-handed weapon and a shield, and keeps Retribution strike talents such as Conviction and Benediction. Protection brings the rest: Redoubt, Shield Specialization and Improved Righteous Fury.

Damage, opener and rotation of Retribution-Protection

Melee (24.9% of the damage), Judgement of Righteousness (17.2%) and Seal of Righteousness (13.6%) weigh the most in the simulation.

Before the fight the character uses Righteous Fury (5 s before) and Seal of Righteousness (1.5 s before). The simulator’s priority list starts with Judgement, Seal of Righteousness, Hammer of Wrath and Holy Strike; the full list, with the condition of each line, is in the Rotation block below.

On the talent side, the build takes Redoubt, Precision, Improved Righteous Fury and Shield Specialization to maximum rank in Protection, then Benediction, Conviction, Vindication and Sanctified Judgement to maximum rank in Retribution.

Damage breakdown

Each line is an ability: the damage per second it adds, its share of the total, how many times it is cast in a fight, the damage of an average cast and, for a lasting effect, the part of the fight where it is active.

Buffs and debuffs

The percentages are coverage times, meaning the share of the fight during which the effect is active: they are not proc chances. “91.0×” is the average number of applications in a fight.

What the Retribution-Protection simulation does not tell

MythicSim’s tank ranking rests on the threat generated on a single target, in the gear described by the credit line. On its own it does not measure how the character takes a boss’s damage, and it covers neither a multi-boss raid nor PvP. Its simulation engine is not the game.

Going Further
