A player waits on the deck of a ship docked at Booty Bay. A second later, he flies over the railing and lands in the sea. Behind the shot is a goblin gun sold for under 3 gold, and Payo, a PvP streamer who dug it up in the WoW Forever beta. His video calls it « the most toxic item in WoW Forever ».
The Booty Bay gun has decent stats for level 30, nothing more. Its appeal comes down to one line of the tooltip: it knocks its target far away, and that target can be another player. Twelve minutes of stream are enough to show what the community will do with it.
The Booty Bay Gun and Its Vendor
It all starts with a goblin vendor, Gezzy Gunks, based in Booty Bay. His stock caught the eye of Payo: the Booty Bay Bruiser’s Buckshot. It is a gun, priced at 2g 79s 80c.
Here is the item card in a few lines.
- Ranged weapon, Binds when picked up
- 35 to 66 damage, speed 2.80, for 18 damage per second
- +3 Stamina, and +9 attack power when equipped
- Requires level 30 and Honored reputation with Booty Bay
The « Use » effect reads: « Take steady aim and fire a round to knock your target away ». Cooldown: 10 minutes.
Payo plays a level 30 rogue and pits the gun against his Iron Star, a thrown weapon at 12.5 DPS. The comparison tooltip shows +5.5 damage per second, +9 attack power and +3 Stamina, at the cost of 3 Agility. At the first shot, his reaction is blunt: « What the hell? » then « it’s kind of cool, bro ».
Timing helps: since the October 1 patch that raised the beta to level 30, this Booty Bay gun lands right at the current cap. The same vendor also sells the Deckswabber’s Mitts, the Soggy Boots, a Souvenir Sea Shell and the Tough Guy’s Eyepatch.
Honored with Booty Bay Comes First
The Booty Bay gun can’t be bought with gold alone. Gezzy Gunks refuses to sell it until your Booty Bay reputation reaches Honored.
This screenshot shows where Payo, a Twitch streamer well known in the WoW PvP scene, stands. He is on the wooden docks, near Auctioneer Graves and a Booty Bay Bruiser, one of the goblin guards of the port. A banner overlaid on his stream reads « FARMING REP FOR GIGA BIS ».
« Farming rep » means repeating actions to raise your reputation with a faction. « BiS » (best in slot) is the best possible item for an equipment slot.
Booty Bay is the neutral goblin port, in the south of Stranglethorn Vale. Alliance and Horde can both enter, so both factions can go after the gun. The video doesn’t detail the farming method. As a weapon, it is a decent level 30 pick for a rogue, hunter or warrior, but its damage isn’t what motivates Payo: it’s the knockback. At the same level, the shaman quest weapon had already set off the same hunt.
The Ship Deck Becomes a Playground
Payo tested the gun on the deck of the ship docked at The Cape of Stranglethorn, the zone name shown on screen. In his video, he shoots the players walking by.
It works on other players, and the streamer is stunned on air: « why can you do it on players ». His conclusion fits in one sentence: « we got a gun that we can grief people with ». « Griefing » means deliberately ruining other people’s game, with no gain beyond the fun of doing it.
In the screenshot, the red arrow traces a victim’s flight over the railing and into the sea. Payo sees a limit there: « it’s less fun because they don’t die ». The victims simply end up in the water. So he looks for a place where the fall would be deadly and names the lava of Ironforge, « Ironforge lava » in his words.
He then keeps firing on the dock and on the ship. With each victim, he repeats the same line: « Have a nice one, my little man ». Chat spams emotes. Payo promises: « I’m going to do it every day ».
The 10-minute cooldown limits the gun to one shot every ten minutes. Griefing stays rare, and we can assume each shot is chosen with more care. At the end of the stream, Payo lets out: « I swear the griefing with this gun is the ball », then a final « One more pistol griefing » before cutting the stream.
No reaction from Blizzard is known as of today, October 6, 2026. The beta went up to level 30 and exists precisely to catch this kind of effect. For now, the Booty Bay gun remains usable on players.
